Salary Range: $61,000 - $93,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, alter, and repair a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, gauges, and fixtures.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
  • Perform precision measurements using a variety of inspection tools to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize tool designs and manufacturing methods.
  • Maintain and calibrate tooling and equipment to ensure accuracy and longevity.

Recommended Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in tool making preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Tool Maker, demonstrating proficiency in the setup and operation of manual and CNC machining equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and various metrology tools for precise measurement and inspection.
  • Proficiency in selecting and working with a variety of materials, including tool steels, carbides, and plastics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on tooling and manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail in creating and repairing precision tools, dies, and fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
  • Certification in a specialized machining process (e.g., EDM, CNC programming).
  • Ability to perform quality inspections using CMM and other precision measurement tools.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
