Our client is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join their surgical services team. This mid-level position involves providing direct patient care as a first assistant to surgeons and contributing to the perioperative team through scrub and circulating duties. The RNFA practices an expanded role in perioperative nursing, utilizing advanced knowledge, skills, and judgment to assist surgeons and ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgeon during operative procedures by:
    • Participating in pre-operative patient assessments.
    • Providing hemostasis, exposure, and tissue handling as directed.
    • Suturing, tying knots, and providing subcutaneous and skin closure when appropriate.
    • Placing and suturing drains under the surgeon's guidance.
  • Maintain compliance with the Idaho Nurse Practice Act and organizational policies.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and promptly.
  • Support patient and family education, identifying learning needs when time permits.
  • Participate in scheduling, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.
  • Fulfill additional duties, including functioning in circulating or scrub roles and assisting with staff education.

Must Haves:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Idaho.
  • Completion of an RNFA course with required documentation.
  • Minimum of three years perioperative RN experience.
  • CNOR certification.
  • Eligibility to obtain allied health privileges through medical staff credentialing.
