JOB TYPE: Full Time
LOCATION: Spirit River, Alberta
SALARY/WAGE: Starting at $125,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
CLOSING DATE: May 6, 2026 or until suitable candidate is found
JOB SUMMARY:
The Agency is assisting the Town of Spirit River in the recruitment of a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to lead municipal operations and support the community's continued growth and success.
Working closely with Council, the CAO will provide strategic leadership, advance economic development initiatives, and foster strong regional partnerships while ensuring responsible financial management and effective municipal operations. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a progressive rural municipality in Alberta's Central Peace Region, known for its strong sense of community, quality of life, and growth potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all municipal services
- Advise and support Council on policy, planning, and governance matters
- Lead and support municipal staff, fostering a collaborative and service-focused culture
- Advance economic development initiatives, including investment attraction and housing growth
- Build and maintain strong regional and intermunicipal relationships
- Represent the Town at regional meetings, partnerships, and community events
- Oversee operating and capital budgets, ensuring sound financial management
- Ensure implementation of Council's bylaws, policies, and strategic priorities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education in public administration, business, or related field
- Local Government Administration certification or willingness to obtain
- Senior leadership experience in municipal government
- Proven experience managing operating and capital budgets with a focus on long-term fiscal sustainability
- Strong background in economic development and partnership building
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work effectively in a political and policy-driven environment
- Commitment to community engagement and organizational leadership
