Position Summary
The Chief Platform Officer (CPO) is responsible for defining, developing, and scaling the organization's technology, business, or digital platform strategy. The role oversees platform architecture, ecosystem growth, API strategies, partner integrations, developer enablement, operational excellence, and platform monetization. The Chief Platform Officer ensures the platform delivers exceptional customer experiences, supports innovation, enables scalability, and creates sustainable competitive advantage across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the organization's platform vision, strategy, and roadmap.
- Establish platform governance, standards, and operating models.
- Drive platform-centric business transformation initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to expand platform capabilities, ecosystem participation, and revenue streams.
- Align platform strategy with overall corporate objectives and growth plans.
Platform Development & Innovation
- Lead the design, development, and evolution of enterprise platforms.
- Oversee platform architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native, API-first, and microservices architectures.
- Champion innovation through emerging technologies including AI, automation, blockchain, and advanced analytics.
- Ensure continuous platform modernization and optimization.
Ecosystem & Partnership Management
- Build and manage strategic partnerships with technology providers, developers, fintechs, vendors, and ecosystem participants.
- Expand platform adoption through partner onboarding and integration programs.
- Develop marketplace and ecosystem growth strategies.
- Foster collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.
Product & Customer Experience
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to deliver platform capabilities.
- Ensure platform solutions meet customer, developer, and partner needs.
- Establish platform service standards and customer success initiatives.
- Drive platform usability, accessibility, and engagement.
Technology & Architecture Oversight
- Govern enterprise platform architecture and technology standards.
- Oversee API management, integration frameworks, and developer tools.
- Ensure platform security, resilience, and compliance.
- Support infrastructure modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.
- Monitor platform performance and service-level agreements (SLAs).
Revenue & Commercial Strategy
- Develop platform monetization strategies and business models.
- Identify new revenue-generating opportunities within the platform ecosystem.
- Establish pricing models for platform services and APIs.
- Drive platform profitability and growth.
Risk, Security & Compliance
- Ensure platform operations comply with regulatory and industry requirements.
- Manage cybersecurity, operational, and third-party risks.
- Implement governance frameworks for platform data and integrations.
- Oversee business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Data & Analytics
- Leverage platform data to improve customer experiences and business performance.
- Promote data-driven decision-making.
- Develop analytics capabilities supporting ecosystem growth and operational efficiency.
- Ensure responsible use of data and compliance with privacy regulations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the executive sponsor for platform initiatives.
- Advise the Board and executive leadership on platform opportunities and risks.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, forums, and strategic meetings.
- Build strong relationships with customers, partners, regulators, and technology providers.
Team Leadership
- Build and lead high-performing platform, engineering, architecture, and ecosystem teams.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor senior leaders and platform specialists.
- Drive talent development and succession planning.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- Master's degree (MBA, Technology Management, or equivalent) preferred.
Experience
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in technology, digital platforms, product management, engineering, or platform businesses.
- Proven experience building, scaling, and managing enterprise or commercial platforms.
- Strong background in platform ecosystems, APIs, cloud technologies, and digital transformation.
- Experience leading large cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives.
