The Chief Trading Officer is responsible for leading the organization's trading activities across asset classes, ensuring optimal execution, risk management, and profitability. The CTO oversees trading strategies, market operations, and trading teams while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires deep expertise in financial markets, strong leadership, and the ability to drive performance in dynamic market conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Trading Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement trading strategies across asset classes (equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, etc.).
  • Oversee execution of trades to ensure best pricing, timing, and efficiency.
  • Monitor market conditions and adjust trading strategies accordingly.

2. Market Risk Management

  • Establish and enforce risk limits for trading activities.
  • Monitor exposure to market, liquidity, and counterparty risks.
  • Ensure adherence to risk management frameworks and trading policies.

3. Trading Operations & Oversight

  • Supervise daily trading operations and ensure smooth functioning of trading desks.
  • Optimize trade execution processes and operational workflows.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of trade settlement and reconciliation.

4. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor traders, analysts, and trading support staff.
  • Build a high-performance trading culture focused on discipline and results.
  • Ensure continuous development of trading skills and market knowledge.

5. Technology & Systems Management

  • Oversee trading platforms, systems, and tools to ensure efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to enhance trading infrastructure and automation.
  • Leverage data analytics and algorithmic trading where applicable.

6. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure trading activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Monitor adherence to trading limits, reporting obligations, and audit standards.
  • Coordinate with compliance and audit teams on regulatory matters.

7. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track trading performance, P&L, and key risk indicators.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to executive management.
  • Use analytics to improve trading strategies and outcomes.

8. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with investment, portfolio management, treasury, and risk teams.
  • Maintain relationships with brokers, counterparties, and market participants.
  • Represent the organization in trading and financial market forums.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field; MBA, CFA, or equivalent preferred.
  • 12–15+ years of experience in trading, capital markets, or investment roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record of managing trading desks and delivering strong performance.
  • Deep understanding of financial instruments, market dynamics, and trading systems.
