In The Wise Seeker we are looking to hire a TAX Manager for our client, an American multinational company based in El Salto, Jalisco, México. 

The TAX Manager will be reporting to the country controller and will develop plans to improve the cash flow and net income. The position will be responsible for al tax and transfer price matters, serving as technical support  for the country financial and accounting teams 

The position interacts with the external auditors and advisors, regarding tax
planning, transfer pricing, accounting and reporting issues. 

Main responsibilities: 

  • Play the lead role in developing Tax plans intended to improve cash flow and net income for El Salto.
  • Be the contact for Tax and transfer price questions in El Salto
  • Stay updated on Tax legislation; communicate implication of law changes and proposal to appropriate management.
  • Support total VAT effort of the country.
  • Ensure that all taxes are properly accounted for and disclosed in accordance with US GAAP and SEC rules, that adequate controls exists and that the proper amount of future tax expense is reflected in the Annual Operating Plan by:
    Playing lead role in tax related SEC reporting and disclosures by A) Preparation and review of various quarterly and annual financial statement tax calculations and analytical reviews and B) Ensuring appropriate explanations of the tax contingency accrual positions are developed and provided to the external auditors. 
  • Developing tax accounting procedures and establish controls and provide education to ensure compliance with those accounting policies, procedures and controls. 
  • Monitoring changes in El Salto tax laws to anticipate, communicate and record the tax accounting impact on the Company. 
  • Ensuring all significant tax accounting issues and disclosures are communicated each quarter to the General Accounting Manager.
  • Understand and ensure compliance for all tax functions relating to SOX and internal controls.
  • Ensure that all taxes, filing and payments are complete, accurate and timely.
  • Play the lead roll in defending the tax positions during external tax audits. 
  • Ensure the tax accounting implications of El Salto tax planning projects are known and properly determined by modeling the tax impact of proposed planning alternatives and transactions.
  • Coordinate with Treasury to ensure tax-efficient cash management, including investment, re-deployment and repatriation of cash between the company affiliates. 
  • Develop tax talent, including development of tax professionals within the Country.
  • Ensure individual objectives are aligned with business objectives.
  • Support to Management team in business initiatives, business evaluations, control environment, etc. Build organizational capability for innovation through training and other avenues.
  • Identify solutions to market-back challenges by leveraging Open innovation, emerging technologies, partnerships, networks, suppliers, ideation, etc.

Requirements:  

  • An undergraduate degree in accounting is required with a concentration in tax desired.
  • Desired: An advanced degree (i.e. MBA, Master of Tax, other advanced degree) or certification (i.e. CPA, JD, LLM etc.) are each desirable
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively experience in Tax assignments. Multinational and Big 5 experience is a plus.
  • Track record of achieving measurable Tax objectives. 
  • Knowledge of Tax, SEC rules, regulations, US Tax rules, international Tax rules and practices.
  • Strong research skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experienced in managing projects for the organization as evidenced by advancement and success of projects.
  • Consulting skills, including the ability to draw on the ideas of key team members and convert them into meaningful strategies and plans
  • Strong knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in relevant systems (i.e. ERP system, (SAP preferred), MS Office products, Hyperion or similar application) as applicable to the region.
  • Change management experience, focused on getting large groups "on board" with new processes and techniques.
  • Interpersonal skills that establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly. 
  • Creates team atmosphere while achieving key objectives.
  • Develops team members through coaching and feedback on results. Shares personal knowledge and experience. Moves decisively on performance problems.
  • Demonstrates a high level of understanding of how key accounting decisions impact the business units and forecasted operating results/cash flows. 
  • Fluent English skills
