A non-profit health organization dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of Southeast Alaska.
Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients in the obstetrics unit. This includes antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn care, and C-section recovery. The RN will function independently while collaborating with the healthcare team and responding to emergencies, including trauma and fetal distress. On-call responsibilities include weekends, holidays, and after-hours.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver patient care based on nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation

Provide 1:1 care during labor and monitor fetal heart tracings using NICHD standards

Support breastfeeding and perform newborn assessments

Assist physicians with procedures and manage post-surgical recovery

Triage OB phone calls and evaluate unscheduled patients

Administer medications and manage medical equipment appropriately

Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and self-care

Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality

Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and staff development
Supervisory Responsibilities:

May lead and delegate to CNAs and support staff
Qualifications:
-
Current, unrestricted RN license in Alaska (or other U.S. state with AK license application in process)

Must obtain the following certifications within 6 months of hire if not already held:

BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP (American Heart Association or Red Cross)

High school diploma or equivalent required

At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred, L&D experience strongly preferred
Required Skills and Competencies:

Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond in emergency situations

Knowledge of maternal and neonatal health, medications, and procedures

Proficiency in electronic health records and documentation

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Compassionate, patient-centered care approach
Work Conditions:

Hospital-based setting in Sitka, Alaska

Rotating shifts with on-call, night, weekend, and holiday responsibilities

Physical ability to perform patient care and respond to emergencies
