R&D Formulation Chemist

A leading company in the cosmetics and personal care industry is seeking an experienced and innovative R&D Formulation Chemist to join its Research & Development team. The role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and improving high-performance formulations while supporting product innovation and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

The R&D Formulation Chemist will play a key role in transforming ideas into market-ready products by conducting laboratory research, evaluating raw materials, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Procurement, and Production.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulation Development & Innovation
• Develop and optimize cosmetic and personal care formulations with a strong focus on performance, stability, safety, and quality.
• Translate product concepts into viable laboratory prototypes and final formulations.
• Continuously improve existing formulations to enhance efficacy, cost-efficiency, and consumer experience.

Research & Raw Material Evaluation

• Research, evaluate, and select raw materials, ingredients, and emerging technologies.
• Stay updated with global industry trends, innovations, and evolving consumer needs.
• Assess compatibility, functionality, and sustainability of ingredients in formulations.

Testing & Product Validation

• Conduct stability, compatibility, and performance testing on developed formulations
• Analyze test results and adjust formulations accordingly to meet product specifications.
• Ensure all products meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Scale-Up & Production Support

• Support scale-up trials and ensure smooth transition from lab to production.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot formulation or process challenges.
• Ensure reproducibility and consistency of formulations during industrial production.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Marketing teams to align formulations with product briefs and consumer expectations.
• Collaborate with Procurement to identify and source suitable raw materials.
• Support Scientific and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with local and international standards.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of formulations, lab trials, and technical reports.
• Ensure all R&D activities are properly recorded in accordance with internal procedures.
• Support compliance with cosmetic regulations and quality assurance standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related scientific field.
• 3–5 years of experience in formulation development or R&D within the cosmetics, personal care, or FMCG industry.
• Strong understanding of formulation science, raw materials, and cosmetic chemistry principles.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation and organizational abilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
• Self-motivated, innovative, and passionate about product development and scientific research.
