Job Position: Boat Crew & Snorkeling guide

The Water Sports Assistant is responsible for the safe conduct of tours and snorkeling operations and shall coordinate the activities and direct assistance of all their snorkelers. Also, must assist in all related water sports and all-inclusive activities. The Water Sports Assistant must comply with all duties and responsibilities in this document but not limited to it.

Competency

The Boat Crew & Snorkeling Guide must:

  • Be familiar with water sports activities.

  • Be qualified to rescue a snorkeler to give first aid, including CPR, and administer oxygen to a breathing and non-breathing person.

  • Maintain a level of fitness so that they can undertake their duties without risk to their own or others

    people’s health and safety.
  • Have significant experience as a tour guide to be able to assess changing marine hazards.

  • Have significant personal snorkeling experience and be able to assess snorkelers’ competence.

  • Be able to effectively instruct and advise snorkelers and water sports participants.

  • Follow the dress code of the Company.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct water sports lessons and activities, snorkeling excursions, excursions, and wave runners guided tours.

  • Help provide equipment for All-inclusive activities to the guests of the Hotel when not in boat excursion.

  • Perform snorkeling activities as described in the Operations Manual. Be familiar with and follow ScubaCaribe standards and local regulations.

  • Perform water sports and guided tours safely.

  • Assist other collaborators as required, including lookout rescue, first aid, carrying tanks, and general equipment preventive maintenance.

  • Ensure participants for snorkeling and water sports activities complete any required documentation before the activity and assess the competence and fitness of the participant.

  • Ensure there are sufficient guides, lookouts, rescuers, and first aid personnel.

  • Ensure snorkeling equipment is in good condition and stored adequately.

  • Ensure snorkelers are appropriately equipped including a mandatory life vest.

  • Ensure safety lines and current/drift lines are in place before starting of the activity.

  • Cancel or modify the conduct of snorkeling or water sports where it cannot be conducted safely.

  • Always remain in the water with snorkelers and advise snorkelers, including ensuring all snorkelers are given a pre-snorkel briefing.

  • Arrange appropriately sized guided groups as required and specified in the Operational Manual.

  • Ensure a headcount is conducted before any departure from a site.

  • Ensure all incidents and injuries are recorded and reported.

  • Comply with the tasks assigned by the Water Sports Supervisor and Base Leader.

  • Comply with the Company’s Appearance and Conduct Code.

Staff transportation to the hotel (selected locations apply)

Training and 3 months’ probation period - 1-year renewable contract.
