Job Position: Boat Captain
The Boat Captain is responsible for the transportation, safety on board, and assistance about diving, snorkeling, and water activities in general of any vessel used to conduct the activity. The Boat Captain must comply with all duties and responsibilities in this description but not limited to it.
Competency
The Boat Captain must:
Be currently qualified with all relevant marine safety requirements.
Have a skipper license for the vessel he/she governs where appropriate.
Have significant experience and knowledge of all designated sites and be able to assess changing marine hazards.
Follow the dress code of the Company.
Selected candidates will have company training before starting the job.
Compulsory training
For this professional category. A Captain needs to undergo the following mandatory training. The applicant must successfully complete the training to obtain a job position with ScubaCaribe.

Duties and responsibilities
Safely conduct boats.
Ensure the vessel is seaworthy and operated with all marine safety requirements including but not limited to hoisting of signals, warning of approaching vessels, maintenance of radio communications, and posting of lookouts.
Know the scheduled working plan for the vessel and prepare it following the plan including needed crew assistance on board for the activity.
Ensure there is a safe entry and egress from divers and snorkelers and a safe positioning of all passengers on board during navigation.
Learn and master the emergency and evacuation plan prepared by the dive center management.
- Ensure that no work is carried out on-board the vessel when diving is in progress if there is any possibility that it could interfere with the vessel from rendering assistance in an emergency, ensuring that propellers cannot turn or injure a person, fishing is not undertaken while on dive or snorkeling activity, and rubbish /sewage is not rejected to the ocean or land.
- Ensure extra diving equipment, first aid kit, oxygen unit, emergency evacuation plan, VHF Radio device, sufficient fuel, emergency toolbox, and drinking water are on board before any departure.
Conduct a welcome and safety briefing to guests before any departure. Ensure a headcount is conducted before any departure from a site.
Keep the vessel clean, and tidy and comply with all maintenance required for the hull, engine, and equipment.
Safely conduct the boats while using it for any activities such as diving, snorkeling, fishing, towable, passengers, or goods transport.
Make sure the boat is in accordance with the activity/service it is meant to provide carrying all the equipment and crew necessary for the activity it is providing.
Comply with the Company’s Appearance and Conduct Code and environmental policies.
