About the job Vehicle Transport Dispatcher — Path to Team Lead

Vehicle Transport Dispatcher — Path to Team Lead
North Sydney, NSW | Permanent Full-Time | Onsite |

Two things matter most for this role: a real, current Australian carrier network you can call on today, and the ability to stay calm and decisive while juggling dozens of live jobs at once. If that's you, read on.

The Role

You'll own vehicle movement end-to-end, across all six states — from confirmed booking through to delivery and sign-off. Carrier selection, daily dispatch, exception management, cost control, dispute resolution: it all sits with you, starting day one. This is not a ramp-up role and it's not a desk-bound coordination job. You're expected to be dispatching vehicles in week one, not shadowing or observing.

You won't be managing a team on day one — you'll be the team. But this is a genuine growth opportunity: as volume scales, so does the function, and there's a clear path to building and leading a team under you.

What You'll Do

  • Run daily dispatch across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, and TAS, including ferry logistics and interstate quarantine considerations
  • Build and manage a panel of transport carriers, balancing price, capacity, lane, and reliability
  • Negotiate rates — including fuel levies, surcharges, and volume commitments — and hold carriers accountable to delivery windows and condition standards
  • Coordinate dispatch across single-vehicle and multi-car carriers, arrange tow trucks for non-runners, and manage vehicle pickups from auction houses and end-of-lease fleet handovers
  • Resolve exceptions personally — transit damage, delays, missed pickups, paperwork issues — including costing and recovering damage claims from carriers
  • Keep our digital operating system clean, accurate, and the single source of truth
  • Report on cost per vehicle, cost per kilometre, on-time delivery, and carrier performance

What You'll Bring

  • A genuine, current Australian carrier network — people you've personally moved vehicles with recently, not just contacts
  • Hands-on experience personally dispatching vehicle transport in Australia at meaningful volume
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of live jobs and exceptions in parallel without losing visibility on any one of them
  • Comfort negotiating rates and holding suppliers accountable to service standards
  • Confidence operating inside structured systems (Airtable, Smartsheet, Notion, or similar) and intermediate Excel/Sheets skills
  • Clear, calm communication — you're as comfortable on the phone as you are in writing
  • The judgement and accountability of a leader, even while working as an individual contributor — this role is built to grow into one with a team under you

You might be a great fit if you've worked in vehicle freight and carrier logistics, auction house operations, fleet management or end-of-lease vehicle operations, or multi-state stock movement for a dealer group or wholesale remarketer.

Why Join

  • Full ownership of a critical, high-visibility function from day one
  • A small, technically strong team that moves fast with no red tape
  • A genuine path to building and leading your own team as the function scales

Backed by a fast-growing, innovation-led business at an exciting point in its growth journey.

Tip for applicants: tell us about your dispatch volume and current carrier relationships in your application — these are the two things that matter most to us for this role.
