This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Unified School District.
The Associate Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing electrical design expertise for K-12 school construction and modernization projects. This role involves coordinating with internal teams and task order engineers, reviewing construction drawings for compliance with District standards and electrical codes, and providing construction administration support. The Associate Electrical Engineer will assist Design Managers in defining electrical scope, prepare project estimates and reports, and help secure funding for projects. Additionally, this position requires on-site visits to assess as-built conditions, resolve code compliance issues during construction, and provide guidance on power upgrades and electrical design for modernization projects. The role also involves staying current with electrical code changes, updating District design guides, and ensuring all projects comply with DSA requirements and standards. Job Responsibilities
- Provide electrical design work, coordinating with in-house staff as well as task order engineers
- Review construction drawings for compliance with District standards and mandated electrical codes
- Provide construction administration support for ongoing in-house projects
- Prepare electrical estimates for project budgets
- Prepare reports and Project Requirement Documents to help obtain funding for projects
- Assist Design Managers in defining electrical scope
- Assist in virtual DSA backcheck appointments
- Visit school sites to determine as-built conditions when as-built drawings are not available or are incorrect
- Assist and resolve electrical issues during construction when a subject expert is requested by Project Execution, to provide direction due to code compliance issues
- Coordinate with task order engineers and electrical service providers when project sites require power upgrade; provide guidance and approval of the design
- Assist Asset Management staff in clarifying and approving electrical scope for modernization projects
- Coordinate new code requirements with the Inspection Department and consult mandated standards to update District design guides
- Conduct research on code changes and identify the implementation methods
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Required Experience:
- Three (3) years full-time paid professional electrical design experience in a public agency, school
construction or large capital commercial projects that include the following: - School construction experience preferably from K-12 school projects within the last 5 years
- Power design experience to include low and medium voltage (1-2 years)
- Low voltage experience to include fire alarm, public address, telephone, security, data systems (1-2 years)
- DSA experience to include submittals, backcheck, addendum, construction change documentation
- CAD experience using AutoCAD version 2020 or newer (1-2 years)
- Valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration of Civil and Professional Engineers
Required Education:
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering
