Job Summary
The Overseas Engineering Director (Malaysia) is responsible for end-to-end engineering and construction management of new store openings and renovation projects across Malaysia. This role ensures project delivery in line with company standards on schedule, quality, cost, and compliance, while coordinating closely with HQ, local contractors, designers, and government authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management

Lead full-cycle engineering management for new store construction and renovation projects in Malaysia, from site survey to store opening.

Develop and execute project plans, construction schedules, and milestone controls.

Review construction drawings, budgets, and technical proposals to ensure feasibility and compliance.

Oversee on-site execution including quality control, safety management, progress tracking, and final acceptance.

Manage project handover, completion documentation, and final settlement.
Site & Construction Oversight

Conduct site surveys and re-measurements; ensure accuracy and completeness of site data.

Supervise local construction teams throughout all phases: surveying, contracting, site entry, construction, completion, and handover.

Provide technical guidance and on-site problem solving during construction.

Coordinate training and ramp-up support for newly onboarded contractors (first, second, third store rollout).
Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure all projects comply with Malaysian building regulations and approval processes.

Coordinate fire safety, environmental, and health authority inspections and acceptance.

Proactively identify risks (e.g. rainy season delays, supplier default) and implement mitigation plans.
Cost & Vendor Management

Control project budgets and manage construction costs effectively.

Source and evaluate suitable local materials and suppliers to optimize cost-performance.

Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, designers, and internal stakeholders.
Operations Support

Oversee post-opening maintenance and engineering-related customer complaint handling.

Identify, summarize, analyze, and report construction and operational issues to management.

Complete other tasks assigned by senior management.
Job Requirements
Nationality
-
Malaysian citizen, or Chinese citizen with long-term residency in Malaysia preferred.
Language
-
Fluent English (working language).
-
Malay required.
-
Mandarin proficiency preferred (for communication with China HQ).
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years of engineering/construction project management experience in chain restaurant or FMCG industries.

Proven experience independently delivering 30+ stores in Malaysia across the full project lifecycle.

Experience supporting Chinese brands expanding overseas is highly preferred.

Strong understanding of differences between China catering construction standards and overseas execution.
Professional Skills

Proficient in AutoCAD and project scheduling/management tools.

Familiar with Malaysian construction codes, government approvals, and inspection processes.
