The Construction Estimator is responsible for developing detailed, accurate cost estimates that support competitive bidding and successful execution of construction projects, with an emphasis on athletic field and turf construction. This role involves reviewing project documents, performing quantity takeoffs, evaluating subcontractor pricing, and collaborating closely with project managers and internal teams. Strong construction knowledge, analytical skills, and communication abilities are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Review blueprints, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other project documents to fully understand project scope and requirements
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
- Solicit, review, and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, proposals, and bid packages
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering, operations, and sales teams to ensure accurate and competitive pricing
- Develop preliminary project schedules based on labor productivity and production rates
- Maintain project costing records and prepare cost variance summaries as needed
- Conduct site visits to gather measurements, assess site conditions, and coordinate with clients or project teams
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and design professionals
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction estimating or a related role
- Proficiency with estimating and construction software such as Stack, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Procore, or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and applicable safety codes
- Experience with athletic fields, natural or synthetic turf systems, and drainage is preferred
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Effective communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
