Purpose of the Role:
The Forestry Associate (Plantation Establishment & Management) will support the CBFM Peoples Organization in planning, establishing, and managing bamboo plantations. This role focuses on providing technical assistance, hands-on fieldwork, and operational support to ensure sustainable plantation practices, while promoting bamboo as a resource for livelihood, environmental protection, and climate resilience.
The main role of a forestry associate in bamboo plantation is to support the sustainable management, development, and productivity of bamboo resources. He/she promotes ecological stewardship through monitoring of soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity within the plantation. He/she is expected to assist in site preparation, planting, and maintenance of bamboo stands.
He/she conducts field surveys to assess bamboo growth, health, and yield as well as maintain records for plantation performance and resource planning. Knows how to conduct time-in-motion experiments. Able to identify daily gaps and challenges. Able to recognize targets vs. accomplishments.
Here's how you would make an impact:
- Assist in site preparation, nursery operations, and bamboo seedling propagation.
- Support the layout, planting, and maintenance of bamboo plantations.
- Implement soil conservation, water management, and pest control measures.
- Monitor plantation growth, survival rates, and overall health of bamboo stands.
- Conduct regular field inspections and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain records of plantation activities, inputs, and outputs.
- Provide hands-on guidance to CBFM members on bamboo cultivation techniques.
- Demonstrate proper planting, weeding, fertilization, and harvesting practices.
- Assist in introducing improved technologies for bamboo plantation management.
- Work closely with CBFM Peoples Organization members to ensure active participation in plantation activities.
- Support training sessions and workshops on bamboo plantation establishment and management.
- Prepare field reports, plantation progress updates, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities for plantation performance.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in plantation establishment, nursery management, or forestry operations. Field experiences working with grassroots organization and local communities / Peoples Organization and/or NGO work exposure are a plus.
- Licensed Forester – RA 10690
- Knowledgeable in the local dialect (Iloko) is an advantage but not required. Knowledge of bamboo propagation and plantation techniques is an advantage and strong practical knowledge in fieldwork and plantation management.
