About the job Web Developer

Upgradable is looking for a Web Developer to finish the design and development of the Upgradable Wordpress website (live, dev) as the universal resource for systematic self-development that's tailored for effective altruists and rationalists. According to our last dev, this would take about three days for clean up work. Ideally, whomever we work with might also be excited to lead the development of future work on the site (including significant user testing, which we've yet to do) and related sites.

Bonus points if you are interested in working as CTO for the building out of our program as an app that guides EAs through the process at no cost to them.

What will you do?
  • Finish v2.0 of Upgradable website into the universal resource for systematic self-development
    • Decide and execute on theme
    • Correct all front-end errors and formatting mistakes
    • Ensure every page is fully responsive on all screen sizes
    • Add subtle/semi-prominent UP App sign up option
    • Add Introduction Video optional section (to hide for now, but add in easily later)
    • Finish UP Steps section
    • Finish Case Studies section and pages (10)
    • Finish Pricing page
    • Finish Tools page
    • Add Movement page
    • Add FAQ page (about ~30)
    • Add Philosophy page
    • Add Plans page
    • Add Assessments page
    • Add Experts page
    • Update Team page (~10-15 more people)
    • Update Principles page (2 more)
    • Update Concepts page (~500 more)
    • Update People page (~20 more, alphabetize, include their failures)
    • Update Science page (~50 more)
  • Launch v2.0 website within a week or two (FYI: none of the additional content above has to go live)
  • Decide v3.0 website objectives
    • Do a great deal of user testing and update accordingly
    • Add an adjustable life upgrades cost-benefit calculator on our hero similar to Effective Altruism hero image
    • Add Introduction Video

Who is suited for this project?

Ideally, we're looking for a person who has 5+ years of relevant experience and is an expert in the following fields:

  • Front-end development 
  • UI/UX
  • Graphic Design 
  • WordPress 
What's the compensation? 

We offer one of the following options:

  • Flat hourly rate (i.e., a contractor relationship) - Whatever is fair 
  • Profit share (i.e., as a normal team member) - 10% of monthly profit pool adjusted by number of hours worked with 140 hours/month being full-time
    Note: We'd share full financials so you can estimate your take home compensation
  • Trade (i.e., an ally relationship) - UP Coaching + UP Archive
