Job Openings DevOps Platform Engineer GCP

About the job DevOps Platform Engineer GCP

Job Location: hybrid in Bucharest

Recruitment process:

  • HR discussion
  • Technical interview X 2

Role description:

  • Be one of the founding engineers of our new GCP DevOps Platform, working closely with the Lead Platform Engineer to shape the technical foundation from day one.
  • Design, build, and operate GKE-based Kubernetes environments that host SAP integrations, e-commerce workloads, and internal applications.
  • Develop reusable Terraform modules and Crossplane compositions that become the golden paths for application teams.
  • Implement the baseline platform services: networking, IAM, Secret Manager, container registry, observability, and CI/CD building blocks for application pipelines.
  • Integrate platform capabilities into our Backstage developer portal so that application teams can self-serve cluster namespaces, secrets, and deployment pipelines.
  • Establish operational excellence practices: SLOs, alerting, runbooks, and a sensible on-call model for platform components.
  • Contribute to technical standards, code review culture, and architecture decision records across the hybrid platform team in Bucharest and Ulm.

Profile:

  • Several years of hands-on experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or SRE building and running production platforms on Google Cloud Platform — or strong equivalent AWS/Azure experience with a credible path to GCP.
  • Deep, practical expertise with Kubernetes (GKE preferred), including networking, workload identity, autoscaling, multi-tenancy, and day-2 operations.
  • Strong Terraform skills — module design, state management, CI/CD-driven workflows — and ideally experience with Crossplane, Config Connector, Cluster-API, or comparable approaches.
  • Solid command of core GCP building blocks: VPC, IAM, Cloud Storage, Secret
Manager, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, Artifact Registry.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred; GitHub Actions, Argo CD, or Tekton equivalent) and with packaging applications via containers and Helm.
  • Working knowledge of observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) and a clear instinct for what to measure on a platform layer vs. application layer. A security-aware engineering style: least-privilege IAM, secret hygiene, image scanning, and an understanding of GDPR-relevant data flows in a European multi- country setup.
  • A pragmatic Platform-as-a-Product mindset — you treat developers as customers and prefer golden paths over one-off heroics.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud topologies is a plus; bonus for exposure to event-driven integration patterns and SAP integration landscapes.
  • Fluent English required; German or Romanian is a plus.
