Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of major mechanical construction projects from concept through commissioning. This individual will manage all aspects of HVAC, plumbing, and piping system delivery, ensuring projects meet strict standards for safety, schedule, budget, and quality. Responsibilities include driving project planning and execution, managing client communications, coordinating with estimating, design, BIM/VDC, prefabrication, and field operations, and proactively resolving challenges to maintain momentum. The Project Manager will also lead cost control, risk management, and resource allocation, ensuring each project is completed with excellence and client satisfaction.

Core Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical and plumbing projects from design-assist and pre-construction through closeout
- Provide constructibility input during design, coordinating with engineers, architects, and BIM/VDC teams
- Build and manage project budgets, cost breakdowns, and cash flow forecasts while ensuring margin protection
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestone tracking, and look-ahead planning
- Negotiate subcontractor and vendor agreements; oversee procurement and material logistics
- Manage project financials including billings, change orders, and forecasting to achieve over - billing and profitability targets
- Usual over-billing goal is to be billed 20% greater than company costs
- Coordinate shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and BIM deliverables to ensure field alignment
- Manage project closeout, retainage recovery, and lien processes when contract conditions require
- Supervising Project Engineers and General Superintendents
- Foster client relationships, lead regular project update meetings, and identify opportunities for repeat business
- Direct project turnover activities, including startup, commissioning, punch list, and final closeout documentation
- Mentor project engineers and junior staff to develop the next generation of project leaders
Required Background
- 8+ years of project management experience with a mechanical contractor (HVAC, plumbing, piping)
- Proven track record managing projects $5M - $20M+ in size (healthcare and data center experience strongly preferred)
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC airside/hydronic systems, plumbing systems (domestic, sanitary, med gas), and controls/BAS
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and building automation/control systems
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field experience preferred
- Proficiency with project management tools (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, Timberline/Sage, or similar)
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC coordination and prefabrication workflows
- Advanced financial skills: cost forecasting, variance tracking, billing, and margin management
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills
- OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain
- Valid drivers license and ability to pass background, MVR, and drug screenings
