Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Journeyman Pipefitter to join our dynamic team. This critical role involves the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical piping systems on large-scale commercial construction projects. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of pipefitting processes, excellent blueprint reading skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities:
- Fabricate piping systems for mechanical installations on commercial construction projects, working with materials such as copper, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work, including pipe layouts, quantities, and material requirements.
- Select the appropriate type and size of pipe, fittings, valves, and other related materials and equipment according to project specifications.
- Execute various pipe preparation and assembly techniques, including cutting, threading, grooving, pro-pressing, bending, bolting, clamping, and tack-welding parts for secure positioning.
- Install hangers, supports, valves, and other components according to piping system plans and specifications.
- Perform leak tests and other quality control measures to ensure the integrity and functionality of pipes and piping systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI).
- Properly identify and safely use a variety of tools and equipment required for pipefitting tasks, including grinders, drills, beveling machines, pipe wrenches, threading machines, and welding/brazing/soldering equipment.
- Operate forklifts and manlifts safely at various heights, as required.
- Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all company safety procedures and OSHA regulations (OSHA 10-hour preferred).
- Coordinate and lay out pipe installations, often leading a small crew (6-10 people).
- Assist with accurate timekeeping for crew members and ensure correct job codes are used.
- Demonstrate good knowledge of Victaulic pipe systems.
- Complete basic safety paperwork, such as Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience with pipefitting processes for commercial mechanical installations.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting weld symbols, weld procedures, and mechanical and structural drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturer instructions to determine work procedures (e.g., ISOs).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and mathematical skills (especially geometry and measurements).
- Ability to work from ladders and manlifts at various heights and operate associated equipment safely.
- Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.
- Ability to work effectively in various environmental conditions (exposed to elements, confined spaces, heights).
