Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated General Foreman to lead and manage multiple crews or large, complex projects within our commercial mechanical construction division. The General Foreman is a critical leadership role responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful completion of mechanical system installations, ensuring adherence to project specifications, budget, schedule, and safety standards. This role requires exceptional leadership, technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Oversee and manage the daily activities of multiple pipefitting, sheet metal, or HVAC crews (typically 30+ individuals), including Journeymen, Apprentices, and other field personnel.
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship to field staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Resolve conflicts and address personnel issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Drive a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency among all crew members.
- Project Management & Coordination: Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other stakeholders to develop and execute project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Interpret and apply blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and direct work activities.
- Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution and avoid conflicts.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement proactive solutions to keep projects on track.
- Manage and optimize the use of labor, materials, and equipment to ensure cost-effectiveness and productivity.
- Oversee the procurement and delivery of materials, ensuring they are available when needed.
- Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance: Provide expert technical guidance and support to crews on complex mechanical system installations.
- Ensure all work is performed to the highest quality standards and in compliance with all relevant codes, industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI), and project specifications.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in the field.
- Safety Management: Champion DynaTen's safety culture and ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations (OSHA 30-hour preferred).
- Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards, implementing preventative measures.
- Investigate and report all incidents and near-misses, implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure all personnel are properly trained and equipped with the necessary PPE.
- Administrative & Reporting: Accurately track and report labor hours, material usage, and project progress.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, change orders, and safety logs.
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other relevant personnel regarding project status, challenges, and solutions.
- Utilize technology for communication, documentation, and reporting as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in commercial mechanical construction, with at least 3-5 years in a Foreman or General Foreman role.
- Must possess current Medical Gas Piping Installation (Med/Gas) endorsement/certification (e.g., ASSE 6010).
- Proven track record of successfully managing and completing large-scale mechanical projects.
- Expert knowledge of pipefitting processes, sheet metal fabrication, HVAC system installations, and relevant industry codes and standards.
- Superior ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and project management software.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic construction environment.
- Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.
- Ability to work from ladders and manlifts at various heights and operate associated equipment safely.
