Employment Type: Full-Time
About Our Company: We are a leading mechanical contractor specializing in high-performance HVAC, plumbing, and sheet metal/pipe fabrication for commercial, industrial, and medical industries with over 40 years of experience. We specialize in providing high-performance mechanical systems and services for large commercial construction projects, prioritizing safety, innovation, and quality. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment that values teamwork, growth, and employee development.
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for the design, analysis, and optimization of complex mechanical systems, primarily focusing on HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for large-scale commercial construction projects. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with project managers, estimators, field teams, and clients to ensure designs are efficient, code-compliant, and constructible, contributing to the successful delivery of high-performance building solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing, and piping systems for commercial, industrial, and medical facilities.
- Perform load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection (e.g., chillers, boilers, air handling units, pumps, terminal units, domestic water systems, drainage systems).
- Develop detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant local, state, and national building codes, energy codes, and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ASME, IPC, UPC, NFPA).
- Stay updated on new technologies, codes, and best practices in mechanical engineering for the construction industry.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and other project stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into overall building designs.
- Participate in design review meetings, provide technical expertise, and resolve design conflicts.
- Work closely with pre-construction (estimating), project management, and field teams to ensure constructibility, cost-effectiveness, and efficient installation.
- Conduct energy modeling, airflow analysis, and other engineering calculations to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
- Evaluate various design options and propose value engineering solutions.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, technical documentation, and submittal reviews.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and reviewing submittals.
- Assist in commissioning and start-up activities to verify system performance.
- Be involved from conceptual design and estimating through construction and project close-out.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to mechanical systems.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 3+ years of progressive experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the commercial mechanical construction or MEP consulting industry, with a strong focus on HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP, for mechanical system design and drafting.
- Solid understanding of mechanical system design principles, load calculations, and relevant industry codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASME, IPC, UPC, etc.).
- Experience with energy modeling software (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP) preferred.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, presentations, and team collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or progress towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
- Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Highly competitive base salary with a generous project management incentive compensation plan.
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401K plan with company match.
- Paid vacation and holidays.
