Overview:

The Drilling Superintendent (Onshore) is responsible for overseeing and managing all onshore drilling operations from the office. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing drilling activities, ensuring they are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Drilling Superintendent will work closely with field teams, contractors, and various stakeholders to ensure drilling programs are completed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management:
  • Provide office-based oversight and support for onshore drilling operations, ensuring alignment with the approved drilling program.
  • Monitor daily drilling activities, providing guidance and decision-making support to field teams.
  • Coordinate with Drilling Engineers, Rig Managers, and other stakeholders to resolve any operational issues that arise.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all drilling activities are conducted in compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) standards and company policies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by reviewing safety reports, conducting risk assessments, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, obtaining necessary permits and approvals.

Planning and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the Drilling Engineer and other departments to develop detailed drilling plans and schedules.
  • Ensure that all necessary resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, are available and properly allocated.
  • Coordinate logistics and support services to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation.

Cost Control and Budget Management:

  • Monitor and control drilling expenditures to ensure operations remain within budget.
  • Review and approve invoices related to drilling activities, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies without compromising safety or quality.

Leadership and Team Support:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the drilling team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify training and development needs for team members.
  • Work closely with HR and other departments to manage personnel issues and ensure the well-being of the team.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and submit regular reports on drilling performance, including daily, weekly, and monthly operational updates.
  • Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, well data, and equipment usage.
  • Compile and analyse data to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the office and field operations, ensuring clear and effective communication.
  • Liaise with contractors, service providers, and other external stakeholders to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Present operational updates and performance reports to senior management and other stakeholders as required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in onshore drilling operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong background in drilling operations, well control, and project management.
  • Proven experience in managing drilling operations from an office-based environment.

Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage and support remote teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of drilling techniques, well design, and well control procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using drilling software and tools such as WellView, WellCAD, and other industry-specific applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

Certifications:

  • Well Control Certification (IWCF or IADC) is required.
  • Additional certifications related to drilling operations and safety are a plus.

Working Conditions:

This is an office-based position with occasional travel to drilling sites as required. Standard working hours apply, but flexibility is needed to respond to operational issues that may arise outside of normal hours.
