Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Financial Controller to join our team at VargasAndrews, a leading provider of outsourced accounting services catering to multiple clients in the US and Australia. As a Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing financial operations, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Develop and implement strategic financial plans aligned with company and clients objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of financial professionals, fostering a culture of teamwork and comradery.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing tailored financial advice and solutions.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics, providing actionable insights for business improvement.

Financial Accounting:

  • Consolidate subsidiary profit and loss account to create results for the company and its affiliates
  • Manage and drive output from the financial accounting functions to ensure that key deadlines and timetables are met
  • Assist the CFO in managing the annual audit process with external auditors. Assist business unit managers and department heads with the preparation of salary packaging
  • Ensure presentation of timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information for decision making (month and year-end). Ensure timely preparation and presentation of budgets and forecasts across the company and its affiliates. Ensure continuous improvement in the areas of management reporting and compliance
  • Preparation of finance SOPs, procedural documents, collaboration on system automation and process improvement tasks
  • Preparation of state and federal tax returns, as required
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Maintain a high standard of culture and champion the companies' mission, vision, and values

HR & Recruitment:

  • Identify staffing needs and participate in recruitment efforts to build a skilled workforce.
  • Develop training programs to enhance team members' technical skills and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to foster continuous improvement and career growth.
  • Conduct team member onboarding to ensure smooth integration into the team and understanding of company processes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MBA is a plus.
  • Must be a CPA (non-negotiable)
  • At least 5-7 years of proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role, preferably in an outsourced accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and drive results.
  • Candidate with night shift experience is preferred

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Netsuite is required
  • Proficiency in MS Excel is required
  • Cost Accounting experience
  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational skills to manage, plan, organize, and implement strategic plans
  • Effective problem-solving and mediation skills
  • Proven experience and high standards of interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Current knowledge of accounting and financial disciplines and management. Demonstrated skills and experiences in core business practices to achieve business growth and sustainment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational skills to manage, plan, organize, and implement strategic plans.
  • Experience working with the Board of Directors and external clients
  • Proven experience in a broad spectrum of staff and management issues. Demonstrated ability to manage staff which involves coaching, guiding, counseling, mentoring and appraising work performance.
  • Ability to work on a continuous night shift

Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (required)
  • CMA (is a plus)
