Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Traffic Engineering Section Lead to lead and grow their traffic engineering practice across South Carolina. This is a hybrid full-time (direct hire) role with an office in Columbus, SC. This is a leadership role ideal for a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise, strong business development skills, and a passion for mentoring others and expanding market presence. As the Senior Traffic Engineer, youll be responsible for overseeing traffic-related projects and services, developing new business opportunities, managing staff, and maintaining high-quality technical standards. This role includes project design, traffic studies, signal and signage plans, and collaboration with local and state agenciesespecially SCDOT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic growth efforts and expand market presence across South Carolina
  • Manage departmental budgets and allocate resources effectively
  • Oversee and contribute to proposal development and client engagement
  • Serve as a technical advisor on traffic engineering projects
  • Supervise, mentor, and review performance of staff
  • Lead and manage traffic engineering projects, including:
    • Traffic signal design
    • Signing and pavement marking plans
    • Traffic studies and crash analysis
    • Maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans
    • Roadway lighting and planning studies

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (from ABET-accredited program)
  • South Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in traffic engineering (design, planning, analysis)
  • Familiarity with SCDOT policies and procedures
  • Experience with traffic analysis and simulation modeling software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and traffic engineering tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
  • Established relationships with local South Carolina clients (including SCDOT)
  • Prior staff hiring and performance management experience
