About the job Traffic Engineering Section Lead
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Traffic Engineering Section Lead to lead and grow their traffic engineering practice across South Carolina. This is a hybrid full-time (direct hire) role with an office in Columbus, SC. This is a leadership role ideal for a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise, strong business development skills, and a passion for mentoring others and expanding market presence. As the Senior Traffic Engineer, youll be responsible for overseeing traffic-related projects and services, developing new business opportunities, managing staff, and maintaining high-quality technical standards. This role includes project design, traffic studies, signal and signage plans, and collaboration with local and state agenciesespecially SCDOT.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic growth efforts and expand market presence across South Carolina
- Manage departmental budgets and allocate resources effectively
- Oversee and contribute to proposal development and client engagement
- Serve as a technical advisor on traffic engineering projects
- Supervise, mentor, and review performance of staff
- Lead and manage traffic engineering projects, including:
- Traffic signal design
- Signing and pavement marking plans
- Traffic studies and crash analysis
- Maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans
- Roadway lighting and planning studies
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (from ABET-accredited program)
- South Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 10 years of experience in traffic engineering (design, planning, analysis)
- Familiarity with SCDOT policies and procedures
- Experience with traffic analysis and simulation modeling software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and traffic engineering tools
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
- Established relationships with local South Carolina clients (including SCDOT)
- Prior staff hiring and performance management experience
