Structural Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze the structural components of buildings and other structures to ensure they are safe, stable, and can withstand various forces.
- Collaborate with architects to create building plans that integrate structural requirements with aesthetic and functional designs.
- Create plans and designs for structural elements, ensuring they can endure loads and stresses.
- Ensure that all designs adhere to national and local safety standards and building codes.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure that construction is performed as designed.
- Evaluate and recommend materials and construction techniques that offer the best performance and durability for the project.
- Perform risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation, including analysis findings, project progress reports, and compliance verifications.
Structural Engineer Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in the construction industry required.
- Professional Engineer License, or the ability to obtain it within a year from hire.
- Proficiency with design analysis software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Project management skills for overseeing timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Ability to focus and keep calm under pressure.
- Ability to keep track of multiple projects.
- Ability to work well in teams which includes collaboration with architectural designers, project managers, and site superintendents.
