Job Openings CMM Programmer

About the job CMM Programmer

Job Description:

The CMM Programmer plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by developing and optimizing programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure precise measurement and quality control of manufactured components. This position requires the creation, testing, and modification of CMM programs to accurately inspect parts according to engineering specifications and industry standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with quality assurance, engineering, and production teams to identify measurement requirements and implement solutions that enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency. By leveraging advanced metrology techniques and software, the CMM Programmer ensures that all parts meet stringent tolerances, thereby reducing defects and rework. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to maintaining high standards of product reliability and customer satisfaction within the manufacturing environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in metrology, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Proficiency with CMM programming software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment including laser scanners and vision systems.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and quality management systems (QMS).
  • Knowledge of CAD software and the ability to interface CAD models with CMM programming.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and maintain CMM programs using industry-standard metrology software to measure complex parts accurately.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine measurement requirements and develop appropriate inspection routines.
  • Collaborate with quality control and production teams to troubleshoot measurement issues and optimize inspection processes.
  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of CMM equipment to ensure consistent accuracy and reliability.
  • Analyze measurement data and generate detailed inspection reports to support quality control inspections, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct program validation and troubleshooting to ensure measurement accuracy and reliability, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Train and mentor operators on CMM programming best practices and software tools.
  • Implement process improvements to optimize CMM programming workflows, reduce inspection cycle times, and enhance data reporting capabilities.

Skills:

The required skills enable the CMM Programmer to accurately translate engineering requirements into precise measurement programs, ensuring that manufactured parts meet quality standards. Proficiency in CMM programming software is essential for creating and modifying inspection routines that capture critical dimensions efficiently. Understanding GD&T allows the programmer to interpret complex tolerances and apply them correctly during measurement. Preferred skills such as CAD integration and knowledge of SPC enhance the ability to streamline inspection processes and contribute to overall manufacturing quality improvements. Strong analytical and communication skills facilitate collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve measurement challenges and implement best practices.
