GENERAL SUMMARY
The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for the day‑to‑day technical execution, coordination, and delivery of structural engineering projects for a wide range of building types. This role focuses primarily on commercial, office, big‑box retail, hospitality, parking structures, educational facilities, municipal buildings, and multi‑family residential developments. The Structural Project Engineer ensures high‑quality engineering output, supports project delivery from design through construction, and upholds firm standards and applicable codes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities; however, may provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coordination support to entry-level engineers and designers.

Project Design and Technical Execution
- Lead and manage all phases of structural engineering projects, from conceptual design through contract documents.
- Prepare structural calculations, design analyses, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge in structural engineering to develop safe, efficient, and code‑compliant designs.
- Make independent engineering decisions and provide technical guidance to project teams.
- Conduct structural observations and building condition assessments during site visits.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and contractor RFIs for compliance with design intent.
Project Coordination and Management
- Plan, direct, and monitor project tasks to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
- Coordinate workload and deliverables with internal team members, including architects, engineers, and designers.
- Collaborate with external partners such as consultants, contractors, and clients to maintain cohesive project execution.
- Work under general administrative supervision, with assignments defined by objectives rather than detailed instructions.
- Maintain organized project documentation, reports, and communication records.
Field and Travel Requirements
- Conduct periodic site visits for structural observations, assessments, and construction support.
- Travel may be required up to 25% of the time, depending on project needs.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong leadership skills, ability to meet deadlines, and provide high-quality service to clients.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Coordinates, writes and/or edits specifications, calculations and reports as applied to structural engineering.
- Highly organized, detail-driven, and conscientious.
- Proficient in current versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Enercalc, RISA, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Strong knowledge and familiarity with the following Codes: IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, AISI, SJI
- Experience with a variety of building materials and elements including structural steel, steel joists, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, cold-formed metal, retaining walls, tilt-up concrete, and shallow and deep foundation systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
- A minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience.
- Professional Engineering licensure preferred, or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
