This position can be located in our Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; or St. Louis, Missouri office. This is an in-office position, and not a remote position.


GENERAL SUMMARY
The Civil Engineering Project Manager is responsible for overseeing, planning, coordinating, and executing multiple civil engineering projects from inception through completion. Reporting to a Managing Director or Director, this role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage teams.

The Project Manager monitors project schedules, budgets, invoicing, and overall performance to ensure successful, profitable project delivery. This position requires a high level of self-motivation, problem-solving ability, and the application of broad engineering knowledge across diverse civil engineering assignments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may include direct supervision of engineers, designers, technicians, and support personnel. Responsibilities may include performance management, task assignment, mentoring, and oversight of project teams.

Project Planning & Management

  • Develops comprehensive project schedules, work plans, budgets, and technical proposals.
  • Manages multiple civil engineering projects concurrently, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Monitors project performance, including progress tracking, milestone completion, invoicing, and financial health.
  • Independently makes decisions on engineering matters within the area of technical expertise.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Leads marketing efforts, including preparing proposals, participating in interviews, and building relationships with prospective clients.
  • Maintains strong client relationships through regular communication, problem solving, and ensuring superior customer service.

Technical Leadership

  • Performs and oversees technical analysis, engineering calculations, and the preparation of reports and documentation.
  • Initiates, reviews, and manages the development of engineering drawings, design plans, and construction documents.
  • Coordinates design concepts with internal engineering teams and external consultants to ensure cohesion and accuracy.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable engineering standards, building codes, regulations, and company quality control procedures.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicates project expectations, scope, and requirements clearly to team members and consultants.
  • Ensures project teams understand and uphold organizational policies, procedures, and the company's mission.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior staff.

Project Execution

  • Tracks and manages project resources, schedules, workloads, and deliverables.
  • Identifies and mitigates project risks to maintain productivity and quality.
  • Ensures accurate documentation, technical integrity, and effective project coordination throughout the design and development process.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of construction documents, technical specifications, and building codes.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to manage deadlines, teams, and complex project workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to present to clients and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in industry standard software, including Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, Project, and Hydroflow or related hydrology/hydraulics software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant civil engineering and project management experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of employment.
