About the job WAF Coordinator
Venture Dynamics is seeking an experienced WAF Coordinator to support Navy and commercial ship repair operations by administering and coordinating the Work Authorization Form (WAF) process. The WAF Coordinator ensures controlled work activities—including hot work, energy isolation, testing, and system restoration—are properly authorized, documented, executed, and closed in accordance with JFMM, NAVSEA, and shipyard requirements. This role serves as a liaison between production teams, safety personnel, and ship’s force in active shipyard environments. Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and within industrial facilities supporting repair availabilities.
Responsibilities

Coordinate, review, process, track, and close Work Authorization Forms supporting ship repair and maintenance activities

Verify work scopes to determine required authorizations, permits, inspections, and safety controls

Ensure WAF execution complies with JFMM, NAVSEA Standard Items, and shipyard authorization requirements

Coordinate hot work, confined space, tag-out/lock-out, testing, and system restoration activities

Serve as liaison between contractors, production supervision, safety teams, and ship’s force

Resolve work conflicts related to system isolation, sequencing, or restoration using drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

Maintain accurate WAF logs, status trackers, and supporting documentation

Monitor active work areas to confirm authorized work aligns with approved WAF conditions

Identify, document, and escalate WAF discrepancies or violations as required

Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews related to work authorization processes
Requirements

Minimum 5 years of shipyard or ship repair experience in production, maintenance, safety, or coordination roles

Demonstrated experience working with Work Authorization Forms, tag-out systems, or controlled work processes

Working knowledge of JFMM, NAVSEA Standard Items, and shipyard authorization practices

Ability to read and interpret work specifications, drawings, schematics, and technical manuals

Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

Ability to communicate effectively with ship’s force, contractors, and multiple departments

Ability to obtain and maintain DBIDS or required Navy base access credentials

Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per customer requirements
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a WAF Coordinator, Tag-Out Coordinator, Hot Work Coordinator, or similar role

Former U.S. Navy personnel with shipboard maintenance or repair experience

OSHA 10 Maritime certification
-
Experience supporting Navy vessel repair or modernization projects
Additional Information
Work is performed in active shipyard and shipboard environments. The role requires walking vessels, accessing confined or industrial spaces, and coordinating with production teams. Exposure to industrial noise and active work zones is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts depending on production requirements.
