About the job Mainframe DevOps Specialist - Contract

Our Client is looking for a Mainframe DevOps Engineer/SME, for an engagement with one of their clients in the  Insurance Domain. Ideally the successful candidate will be engaged for a 6-8 months contract, starting in Jan/Feb 2026, preferably onsite in Sydney, but hybrid/remote working within Australia, may be possible in the AEST time-zone.

  • The requisite skill and experience defined below,
  • At least Australian Permanent Residency and working rights, and
  • At least 5+ year's relevant local working experience.

Background:

  • Experience in designing and implementing solutions with a focus on automation and modern engineering techniques.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven track-record in their ability to consult with the end-client and define, then implement - new ways of working that leverages the abilities of the modern tooling. Then lead the process of implementing the new DevOps approach.
  • The requirement is to migrate from a legacy Broadcom (formerly CA) Endevor mainframe SCM to Git-based SCM solution and build and deploy functionality would be using modern IBM mainframe DevOps tooling.

Technical Skills:

  • At least 10 years experience as a Mainframe Programmer/Developer.
  • Good Mainframe skills with an exposure to IMS, CICS, VSAM, DB2, OMVS/USS and Control-M.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of key tasks such as DevOps and CI/CD pipeline, branching strategy, build and deployment cycles, along with generation and communication of new processes and approaches.
  • Excellent scripting and highly experienced in DevOps rollout using the following tooling -
  • GitHub,
  • CodeFresh,
  • jFrog Artifactory,
  • IBM DBB.
  • Groovy,
  • Python,
  • Shell,
  • REXX.
  • REST API skills.
  • Experience migrating CA-Endevor to GitHub/DBB would be a KEY SKILL in securing this engagement.
  • Skilled in debugging techniques using tools such as xPediter, tracing and various log analysis (both mainframe and non-mainframe).
