About the job Mainframe Systems Programmer (& some Security) Specialist
We are looking for at least one seasoned Mainframe System Programmer and if they have Security expertise it would be an added benefit, for a long-term assignment with a key client in 2026.

The role will be a combination of onsite/remote/hybrid engagement for an Australian Citizen or Permanent Residency status. Preferred candidates will be based in Melbourne, Victoria HOWEVER, interstate candidates will be considered, dependent on their skills match.

- At least 5 years local experience is desired.
Role Purpose:
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to bring their skills and experience to bear and provide Mainframe technology-based services incorporating design, development, delivery and maintenance of technological solutions to meet business needs. Current and future projects very much focus on Mainframe system support, Security hardening and remediation, mentoring and Software replacement and migrations, hence the desire to find EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELD.
Key competencies & experience:
- 15+ years relevant Mainframe technology experience,
- Multiple years' experience in Systems Programming,
- Security (RACF preferred & ACF2 considered) knowledge (at least 5 years) would be highly desirable,
- Programming with HLASM and ability to teach others would be advantageous,
- The usual standard Mainframe capabilities required, eg. JCL (Job Control Language), ISPF and ISPF Dialogue Management Services, SDSF (Spool Display Search Facility), TSO, REXX, etc.
- Knowledge of SAS (Statistical Analysis System) or similar programming would be highly advantageous, and
- Any other programming experiencing in one or more programming disciplines (including: Python, PL1 and Cobol) would be highly desireable.
Key non-technical capabilities:
- Tertiary qualification in a Technology discipline or related field, highly desireable,
- Sound understanding of security, audit and risk management, controls and standard operating procedures highly advantageous,
- Ability to build effective relationships and enable the successful implementation of technical strategies,
- Use technical expertise and judgement to define and implement technical solutions to support business needs,
- Provide services to support, guide and assure design of solutions in line with agreed strategies and directions,
- Confer with systems users to develop areas of change in requirements, that result in greater efficiency, systems integration or cost reduction,
- Provide technical input to design specifications of major computer systems and provide consultative guidance on their execution,
- Understanding of change, processes and requirements around system hardening and security remediation of Mainframe systems, and
- Excellent verbal, written/documentation and presentation skills as well as stakeholder management.
