Job Summary

The Director of Video Programming Strategy leads the development and execution of a data-driven YouTube programming strategy to grow and optimize a multi-channel portfolio. This role oversees content planning, performance tracking, and strategic analysis to inform programming decisions, prioritize investments, and drive audience and revenue growth.

The position serves as a YouTube subject matter expert, partnering closely with Editorial, Video, Marketing, Data, and Product teams to translate insights into actionable strategies. This is a hybrid work position.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, data-informed YouTube programming strategy aligned with growth objectives

  • Partner cross-functionally to set programming priorities based on audience and business needs

  • Provide strategic guidance on platform best practices, features, and competitive trends

  • Translate insights into actionable recommendations for creative teams

Programming & Optimization

  • Research, identify, and pitch new programming verticals and growth opportunities

  • Build research frameworks for pilot development and ongoing series optimization

  • Oversee content slate planning to ensure balanced and optimized publishing cadence

  • Collaborate with optimization teams to improve release schedules, titles, thumbnails, and discoverability

Analytics & Reporting

  • Prepare regular performance reports and strategic recommendations for leadership

  • Develop creative performance lookbacks for pilots and franchises

  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs)

  • Analyze competitive landscape, monetization models, and growth strategies

  • Partner with Data and Product teams to build reporting dashboards and performance tools

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in programming strategy, content insights, or optimization within a major media organization or multi-channel network

  • Proven track record of significantly growing YouTube channels in subscribers, views, watch time, and revenue

Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable programming strategies

  • Proficiency with YouTube Analytics, third-party analytics platforms, and data visualization tools

  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills

  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Collaborative mindset with ability to influence cross-functional teams
