Job Summary

The Summer Internship – Healthcare Administrative Associate provides hands-on experience supporting departmental operations within a healthcare setting. This internship offers the opportunity to develop professional skills, gain exposure to healthcare careers, and contribute to daily operational and administrative functions.

The internship program runs from June 1 through July 31. Interns work under the supervision of a department leader or designee and assist with projects, research initiatives, and routine front-office operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision to complete assigned departmental duties

  • Assist with operational, administrative, or professional tasks aligned with department needs

  • Support research projects or strategic initiatives as assigned

  • Observe, document, and communicate work progress and findings to leadership

  • Participate in staff meetings and interdisciplinary discussions

  • Manage time effectively and prioritize assignments

  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements

  • Perform core front-office responsibilities, which may include:

    • Patient registration

    • Authorization and referral processing

    • Appointment scheduling

    • Switchboard/phone support

    • Patient check-in and check-out processes

    • Medical record maintenance

  • Support workflow functions critical to the efficient operation of the practice or department

Qualifications

Education:
Two years of high school required. Some internships may require enrollment in or near completion of an undergraduate or terminal degree in a relevant field.

Licensure/Certification:
Clinical interns may be required to be enrolled in an accredited professional program and meet regulatory or licensure-related requirements.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age (18 years of age if assignment involves chemicals or power tools)

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and willingness to learn

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
