Job Summary

The Director of Electric Powertrain will lead the development, industrialization, and in-house manufacturing of next-generation electric propulsion systems for commercial vehicles. This role is responsible for building electric motor, inverter, motor controller, and power electronics capabilities while working closely with suppliers and internal teams to deliver scalable, high-performance powertrain solutions.

The ideal candidate is a strategic technical leader with deep expertise in electric drivetrain systems, including motors, control hardware, embedded software, and system integration within commercial vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Ownership

  • Define and execute the long-term strategy for electric powertrain development and internal manufacturing capabilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations

  • Own technology roadmaps for motors, inverters, controllers, and control software

Supplier & Partnership Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers for motors, inverters, power electronics, and subsystems

  • Lead technical negotiations, quality standards, and technology transfer initiatives

  • Oversee transition of supplier-supported designs into internal production

Engineering & Technical Development

  • Direct design, development, validation, and production readiness of electric motors, inverters, and control systems

  • Lead teams focused on:

    • Electric motor design and optimization

    • Inverter and control hardware development

    • Embedded software and motor control algorithms

    • Powertrain integration into vehicle platforms

  • Establish best-practice engineering processes, including safety analysis, testing protocols, and product release standards

In-House Manufacturing Establishment

  • Develop and execute internal production strategies for motors and control hardware

  • Define manufacturing processes, equipment needs, quality controls, and staffing requirements

  • Support pilot production and full-scale manufacturing ramp-up

Testing, Validation & Compliance

  • Oversee system-level testing including durability, environmental, EMC/EMI, and performance validation

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations

  • Drive continuous improvement for reliability, efficiency, and cost optimization

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams

  • Promote innovation, technical excellence, and operational discipline

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in electric powertrain or propulsion systems

  • Proven leadership in engineering and cross-functional program management

  • Hands-on experience in electric motor and inverter development

  • Strong knowledge of motor control algorithms, embedded software, and power electronics

  • Experience managing suppliers and technical partnerships

  • Demonstrated success in scaling manufacturing programs

Preferred

  • Masters or PhD in Engineering or related discipline

  • Experience in commercial or heavy-duty vehicle electrification

  • Knowledge of functional safety and automotive development standards

  • Experience with supplier technology transfer

  • Familiarity with high-voltage systems and propulsion architectures
