Job Summary

The Associate Electrical Engineer performs professional-level electrical engineering work supporting complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role involves project planning, detailed electrical design, construction support, system startup and commissioning, technical troubleshooting, and ongoing operational support. The position requires strong technical expertise, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Management

  • Plan and develop project scope, schedules, and budgets for complex electrical engineering projects

  • Prepare contract and bid documents and coordinate multidisciplinary teams

  • Direct, monitor, and control project activities to ensure compliance with scope, timelines, and budgets

Electrical Design

  • Research and develop electrical design criteria, project scope, and cost estimates

  • Prepare and review drawings, diagrams, schedules, and specifications for electrical systems and equipment

  • Design and analyze power systems including substations, distribution systems, treatment facilities, pumping stations, and support facilities

  • Perform electrical studies such as load calculations, short-circuit analysis, coordination studies, arc flash, harmonics, and motor starting analysis

  • Apply applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC requirements for classified and non-classified locations

Construction Support and Startup

  • Provide construction support, startup, and commissioning for electrical and control systems

  • Review and approve submittals and RFIs; update drawings and as-built documentation

  • Support testing, configuration, and commissioning of electrical and control equipment

  • Assist with instrumentation setup, calibration, and control system configuration

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical assistance for preventive maintenance programs

  • Support and lead troubleshooting of power system, grounding, control, communication, and power quality issues

  • Collect and analyze data for arc flash studies and maintain related technical documentation

  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety standards

Planning, Technical Review, and Research

  • Perform preliminary design and engineering analysis for wastewater-related projects

  • Review technical reports, consultant designs, and proposals

  • Prepare regulatory documentation and technical evaluations

Communication and Documentation

  • Deliver technical presentations and participate in meetings with diverse stakeholders

  • Prepare clear, accurate engineering reports, correspondence, and technical documentation

Computer Applications

  • Use electrical engineering and power system software for analysis and design

  • Configure and support control systems, networks, servers, and related hardware

  • Develop and modify system settings, parameters, and operator interface screens

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or a California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate

  • Four years of professional electrical engineering experience following degree completion

  • Active California Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) license

  • Valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed

  • Ability to perform both office-based and field-based duties
