Job Summary
The Truck & Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining trucks and heavy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. The role performs preventive maintenance, repairs mechanical and electrical systems, conducts inspections, and uses diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, brakes, transmissions, steering, and electrical systems.
- Repair and maintain heavy equipment and paving equipment.
- Remove and replace truck and heavy equipment components as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections.
- Conduct diagnostic testing and interpret repair results.
- Perform Federal Motor Carrier periodic inspections.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.
- Follow repair shop safety procedures and maintenance standards.
- Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience as a truck and/or heavy equipment mechanic.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment.
- Experience using equipment diagnostic software.
- Welding experience preferred.
- Experience repairing paving equipment is a plus.
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail and basic math skills.
