Job Summary
The Account Clerk I role supports emergency initiatives addressing homelessness by performing essential accounting and financial clerical duties under general supervision. This position assists with maintaining accounting records, processing financial documents, and supporting day-to-day accounting system operations related to public service programs.
Under an emergency hiring order, qualified candidates may be appointed for an initial limited-term period, with the opportunity to be considered for permanent employment based on performance evaluation.
Key Responsibilities

Provide clerical support to senior accounting staff responsible for daily accounting operations

Perform bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping tasks within established procedures

Sort, code, verify, post, balance, and file financial documents and accounting records

Assist with error identification, reconciliations, trial balances, and standardized financial reports

Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting, or inventory control systems

Prepare payroll-related documents, requisitions, and inventory records as assigned

Operate office and bookkeeping equipment, including calculators, accounting machines, and computers

Conduct routine checks to verify accuracy of accounting documents and compliance with procedures

Perform data entry, computations, and document production using standard office technology

Carry out related clerical and financial tasks as required
Minimum Requirements
Option I
-
One year of clerical bookkeeping experience assisting with a double-entry accounting system, including coding transactions and posting and balancing ledgers, journals, and registers
Option II
-
One year of clerical experience maintaining financial or statistical records involving coding, recording, checking tabulations, and data computations

Completion of a high school-level course in bookkeeping or elementary accounting
Physical Requirements

Light physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 10 pounds

Some bending, stooping, squatting, and walking may be required
