Job Title: General Maintenance Technician

Job Summary
The General Maintenance Technician is a full-time role responsible for performing routine, preventive, and project-based maintenance work to ensure the safe and efficient operation of campus facilities. This position works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and supports facility upkeep, repair, and event set-ups. The technician will handle a wide variety of maintenance tasks, requiring technical skills, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work (bulbs, ballasts, etc.), and furniture repair.

  • Complete drywall and basic woodworking tasks.

  • Assist with facility set-ups and event support, including moving furniture, supplies, and equipment.

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum work areas as needed.

  • Report items requiring repair such as doors, locks, lights, faucets, and furniture.

  • Lock offices, classrooms, and other areas after work is completed.

  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of facilities management vehicles.

  • Participate in rotating weekend, on-call, and morning campus unlock duties.

  • Remain available during scheduled hours via radio and respond to emails in a timely manner if required.

  • Safely operate tools and equipment used in the maintenance trade.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.

  • Complete work orders, reports, and paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in a maintenance position, preferably in an institutional environment.

  • Working knowledge of maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to complete work orders efficiently and accurately.

  • Safety-conscious with knowledge of basic safety practices.

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.

  • Ability to work within institutional policies, uphold organizational values, and cooperate in team operations.

  • Valid drivers license (if required to operate vehicles).
