Job Description:
Job Summary
Performs advanced professional and technical work applying civil and construction engineering principles, with a focus on Capital Improvement projects and computer-aided design (CADD). Responsible for developing and reviewing engineering drawings, maintaining drafting standards, supporting project planning and execution, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and maintain project drawings and libraries using AutoCAD and other CADD software.
- Assist engineers in plan development and review CAD drawings from consultants.
- Prepare preliminary and final construction drawings, maps, and graphic presentations.
- Maintain and update Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) databases and project records.
- Coordinate drafting and engineering activities with internal departments and external consultants.
- Apply civil engineering principles to support surveying, drafting, and infrastructure design.
- Design civil/site infrastructure and architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
- Perform field inspections to ensure construction compliance with design specifications.
- Conduct engineering calculations and review computations for accuracy.
- Provide training and technical support on CADD systems, AutoCAD, and related tools.
- Perform quality control reviews of drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Attend public hearings, meetings, and pre-construction conferences.
- Prepare reports, exhibits, and presentations for project updates and decision-making.
- Coordinate with agencies, utilities, and stakeholders on project development and execution.
- Assist with administrative functions including bid packages, permits, RFIs, and document control.
- Maintain project documentation and drawing archives (digital and physical).
- Track project progress, revisions, and milestones using databases and management tools.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide technical assistance as needed.
- Operate office and technical equipment, including drafting tools and communication devices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of drafting methods, CADD systems, and AutoCAD software.
- Understanding of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and design standards.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency in coordinating multiple projects and maintaining organized documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting technical issues.
- Ability to train and support staff in drafting and design tools.
- Knowledge of applicable construction regulations and compliance standards.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in design and documentation.
- Proficiency in computer applications and project tracking systems.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in computer-aided drafting and design systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must obtain and maintain required industry certifications within specified timeframes.
Certifications
Required within 6 months:
- Local Agency Program (LAP) Certification
- FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level 1
- FDOT Concrete Field Specifications
- FDOT Final Estimates Level 1
- FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 1
- FDOT Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic Certification
- Stormwater Management Inspector Certification
Required within 1 year:
- FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level 2
- FDOT Final Estimates Level 2
- FDOT Asphalt Paving Level 2
- FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic Certification
- FDOT QC Manager Certification
- LBR Technician Certification
- Construction Professional Certification (PMI)
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification
- Autodesk Certifications (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit – Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical)
