Job Summary

After School Instructors work with groups of up to 20 students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade, providing tutoring, homework assistance, and educational enrichment. This role requires high energy, strong organization and communication skills, and the ability to maintain a fun, structured, and supportive learning environment. Instructors collaborate with site leadership and school staff to ensure programs align with school-day activities and student needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance to support students in meeting academic standards

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of curriculum, rules, and procedures, including new program content introduced during the school year

  • Deliver educational enrichment activities, including youth development, recreation, prevention programs, and life skills instruction

  • Collaborate with internal team members and external school staff and teachers

  • Track and document student progress using established program protocols

  • Ensure consistent supervision and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment

  • Complete required safety documentation, including incident and injury reports

  • Track daily attendance and complete required program documentation

  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans

  • Maintain professionalism when interacting with students and families

  • Communicate student and parent feedback to site leadership to support program improvement

  • Attend staff, site, and district meetings as required

  • Support family engagement and site-based events

  • Assist at other sites when needed due to staffing requirements

  • Apply approved behavior management techniques to support positive student behavior

  • Complete all required health, safety, education, and professional development trainings

  • Prepare and adapt classroom settings, including arranging furniture and materials (up to 25 lbs.), to support mobile or shared learning spaces

  • Promote an inclusive, team-oriented environment that supports Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Education & Experience

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Additional college coursework in education, recreation, or child development preferred

  • Must meet applicable school district requirements, which may include examinations or paraprofessional certification

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working with children preferred

Other Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Ability to independently manage a classroom of up to 20 students (TK–8th grade)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally

  • Knowledge of behavior management strategies and positive guidance techniques

  • Highly organized, motivated, and student-focused

  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and time management skills

  • Flexible, collaborative, and committed to making a positive impact on childrens lives

  • Ability to meet state and district-specific compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, CPR/First Aid, health clearances, mandated training)
