Job Summary
The Diesel Truck Shop Technician III is responsible for diagnosing equipment issues and performing complex mechanical repairs on trucks, buses, engines, engine components, and related equipment in a shop environment. This role also performs routine maintenance, assists other technicians, and ensures all work meets established quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems on trucks, buses, engines, and related equipment.
- Identify and order parts required for repairs and maintenance.
- Perform complex and major mechanical repairs and component replacements.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
- Complete work orders and timesheets accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist lower-level technicians with repair assignments as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all quality control and safety procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3–7 years of related diesel, truck, or heavy equipment repair experience.
- Technical certification in automotive and/or diesel engine repair.
- Ability to utilize laptop computers and portable diagnostic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Customer-service oriented with the ability to follow company procedures.
Preferred Skills
- Basic computer navigation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working on diesel engines, trucks, buses, and related equipment.
- Ability to assist and support junior technicians.
Working Conditions
- Work performed in both shop and outdoor environments.
- May be exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Requires vision, depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to safely perform mechanical repair tasks.
