Job Summary

The Diesel Truck Shop Technician III is responsible for diagnosing equipment issues and performing complex mechanical repairs on trucks, buses, engines, engine components, and related equipment in a shop environment. This role also performs routine maintenance, assists other technicians, and ensures all work meets established quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems on trucks, buses, engines, and related equipment.
  • Identify and order parts required for repairs and maintenance.
  • Perform complex and major mechanical repairs and component replacements.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Complete work orders and timesheets accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist lower-level technicians with repair assignments as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all quality control and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3–7 years of related diesel, truck, or heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Technical certification in automotive and/or diesel engine repair.
  • Ability to utilize laptop computers and portable diagnostic tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dependable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Customer-service oriented with the ability to follow company procedures.

Preferred Skills

  • Basic computer navigation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working on diesel engines, trucks, buses, and related equipment.
  • Ability to assist and support junior technicians.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in both shop and outdoor environments.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Requires vision, depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to safely perform mechanical repair tasks.
