Job Summary

The Development and Marketing Director provides strategic leadership for fundraising, donor engagement, and marketing initiatives to support long-term organizational sustainability and mission growth. This role leads the development and execution of comprehensive fundraising strategies, oversees donor and membership programs, and ensures consistent, impactful marketing and communications. Working closely with executive leadership, staff, and board members, the Director plays a key role in organizational planning, revenue generation, and public engagement while managing and mentoring communications staff.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Support organizational strategic planning in collaboration with leadership, staff, and board members

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term fundraising strategies to achieve financial sustainability

  • Prepare and manage annual budgets related to development and communications programs

  • Establish and oversee effective fundraising systems, databases, and operational standards

  • Ensure compliance with best practices and fundraising policies; recommend improvements as needed

  • Engage board members and volunteers in fundraising strategy and implementation

  • Supervise, mentor, and support communications staff

  • Present fundraising strategies, progress, and performance metrics to leadership and the board

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Lead annual fundraising and membership campaigns to strengthen donor relationships

  • Expand individual donor cultivation and engagement across new regions and audiences

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major donors and corporate supporters

  • Develop personalized stewardship and solicitation plans for major donors

  • Oversee donor records, gift tracking, acknowledgments, and CRM data integrity

  • Research, cultivate, and secure funding from foundations and corporate partners

  • Coordinate donor events, tours, and engagement activities

  • Develop and expand planned giving initiatives

  • Oversee grant development, submission, and reporting processes

Performance & Accountability

  • Establish, track, and report on fundraising KPIs including donor retention, acquisition, revenue growth, and ROI

  • Evaluate fundraising effectiveness and adjust strategies based on data insights and outcomes

Communications & Marketing

  • Collaborate on annual marketing and communication strategies to grow audience reach and engagement

  • Support the development of fundraising and communication materials such as newsletters, impact reports, and media content

  • Monitor and analyze digital and campaign performance metrics to inform strategy

  • Lead public outreach efforts, presentations, and special events as a representative of the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in fundraising, major gifts, or related fields with demonstrated success securing significant funding

  • Proven ability to meet or exceed revenue goals and performance metrics

  • Experience managing teams and external partners or contractors

  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills

  • Data-driven approach to fundraising strategy and performance management

  • Experience with donor databases and CRM systems

  • Proficiency with common productivity, design, and digital communication tools

  • Valid drivers license and ability to meet physical requirements related to events and outreach
