SUMMARY:

Assistant Estimator calculates possible costs and gains of fire sprinkler projects. Will collect and analyze data according to a series of useful variables. Very comfortable with numbers and analytical data. Great attention to detail and excellent communication skills. The goal is to provide the company with accurate information that will help in operations and strategic planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attain understanding of the requirements of the project/program at hand.
  • Reviews construction documents and understand scope of work for bidding purposes.
  • Executes takeoffs on construction documents.
  • Inputs takeoffs into a computer spreadsheet.
  • Obtain bids from contractors.
  • Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
  • Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies of omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  • Communicate with homeowners, customers, purchasing agents, and contractors over the phone as well as by email.
  • Ability to navigate job sites, warehouses, and other venues to gather essential information.
  • Review documents or consulting with contractors and customers to collect all necessary fire protection data.
  • Develops and maintains resource information of products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Analyze data and select metrics to produce forecasts and valid estimates.
  • Perform risk analysis.
  • Assist in preparation of detailed reports or bids for submission to appropriate parties.
  • Select advantageous deals by evaluating offers and quotes and make a profitable agreement.
  • Attends department meetings as required and communicates with design and project management team.
  • Coordinate with architectural firms.
  • Photocopies documents and plans.

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  8. Talking: Communicating by phone and in person.
