Groundworks Project Manager – Day Rate

Location: Nottingham
Duration: Initial 8-week project with immediate follow-on project available
Start Date: Immediate
Rate: Competitive Day Rate (DOE)
Hours: 7:00am – 4:30pm

The Opportunity

Our client, a Midlands-based Groundworks sub-contractor, is seeking an experienced Groundworks Project Manager to take full responsibility for delivering a fast-paced groundworks package on a new school development in Nottingham.

The initial project consists of an 8-week programme focused on the completion of ground floor slabs, drainage infrastructure and associated external works. A second Nottingham-based project is scheduled to commence immediately afterwards, providing continuity of work for the successful candidate.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Project Manager with strong civil engineering and groundworks experience who can manage both site operations and the administrative requirements associated with working for a major contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall management and delivery of the groundworks package.
  • Programme management to ensure completion of works within the 8-week timeframe.
  • Coordination and management of sub-contractors, labour and plant resources.
  • Management of ground floor slab installations.
  • Management of drainage and underground services installation.
  • Liaison with the Main Contractor's Project Team.
  • Daily site coordination meetings and progress reporting.
  • Monitoring productivity, quality and programme performance.
  • Management of site health & safety standards.
  • Production and approval of RAMS, permits and site documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with Tier 1 contractor procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Managing site records, inspections and quality assurance processes.
  • Working closely with the Site Foreman and Site Engineer to achieve programme milestones.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Client and stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Reporting Structure

The successful Project Manager will have:

  • Dedicated Site Foreman
  • Site Engineer
  • Support from the Main Contractor's Project Team

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering groundworks and civil engineering packages.
  • Previous experience as a Project Manager on commercial, education, residential or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of drainage, foundations, slabs and external works.
  • Experience working for or alongside Tier 1 Main Contractors.
  • Strong planning, programming and reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to manage permits, paperwork and site compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Valid SMSTS Certificate, CSCS Card, First Aid also preferred

Desirable Requirements

  • First Aid at Work Certificate.
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • CSCS Black Card or equivalent.
  • Civil Engineering or Construction-related qualification.

You will be a driven and organised Project Manager who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment. You will be equally capable of managing site operations and handling the significant paperwork, permits and reporting associated with Tier 1 contractor projects.
