Job Title: Transportation Planner

Location: DFW Metroplex (On-site)

Position Overview

A well-established transportation provider with over 50 years of industry experience is seeking a Transportation Planner to join their on-site operations team in the DFW Metroplex. This role plays a critical part in planning and optimizing freight routes and schedules to ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across regional and national lanes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and dispatch freight loads efficiently to meet on-time pickup and delivery targets.

• Balance internal fleet capacity and brokered carriers to meet operational demands.

• Monitor freight volumes and trends; identify and escalate network inefficiencies to leadership.

• Maintain service commitments for assigned customer accounts by managing load counts and routing solutions.

• Maximize asset utilization and minimize empty miles through effective planning.

• Leverage internal brokerage relationships to supplement capacity as needed.

• Support creative routing and relay strategies to uphold service standards.

• Participate in a rotating Saturday schedule (every 4th Saturday, 7:00 AM 2:00 PM).

• Work core hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM 5:00 PM, with flexibility for extended hours or weekend coverage.

• Perform additional logistics support tasks as assigned.

  
  

Required Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills

• Experience using TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and load planning tools
  
• Proficient in Excel and/or BI platforms for data analysis and reporting
  
• Strong understanding of freight lane management and DOT regulations
  
• Familiarity with route optimization strategies and cost-control methods
  
• Knowledge of regional and over-the-road (OTR) trucking operations

• Effective problem-solving and decision-making in high-pressure scenarios

• Strong organizational and time management abilities

• Clear and professional verbal and written communication

• Team-oriented with a proactive and collaborative approach

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation planning or logistics coordination

• Associate or Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field

• Prior experience in freight brokerage or coordination with third-party carriers is advantageous

Work Environment

This is an on-site position located in the DFW Metroplex. The role requires occasional flexibility outside of core hours due to the dynamic nature of freight operations.
