Role summary
Design, build, and operate secure, reliable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure and platforms for engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Design landing zones, VPC or VNet, IAM, networking, and security controls.
  • Automate provisioning with IaC and enforce guardrails with policy as code.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Optimize spend and right-size compute, storage, and managed services.
  • Run well-architected reviews and drive remediation plans.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years hands-on with AWS or Azure or GCP.
  • Proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation or Bicep.
  • Solid networking, IAM, and security foundations.
  • Containers and registries, basic Kubernetes operations.

Preferred

  • Kubernetes platform operations, service mesh, GitOps (Argo CD or Flux).
  • Compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
  • Cost and performance optimization on spiky workloads.

Tools and stack
Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, ECR or ACR or GCR, CloudWatch or Azure Monitor or Stackdriver, Prometheus and Grafana, Vault or KMS, OPA or AWS Config or Azure Policy.

KPIs / success metrics
Uptime and SLA, cost per workload, security posture scores, change success rate.

Initial screening questions

  • How would you design a multi-AZ, auto-scaling web tier with least privilege?
  • Walk through your approach to cost optimization for a bursty API.
  • What would you monitor for a stateful microservice and why?

Optional skills task
Provide a Terraform module that provisions a secure three-tier app with variables, tagging, and a README. Include a basic cost estimate.
