OVERVIEW

The Estimator is a member of the preconstruction/estimating team that is responsible for preparing quantity take-offs and assisting with estimates which includes soliciting and evaluating vendor proposals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Skills:

  • Basic understanding of architectural drawings.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately estimate quantities and sizes.
  • Able to manage competing demands of multiple tasks while maintaining a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Assist Sales Manager in decisions regarding intake of work, project estimating, and pricing.
  • Good interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work positively with others to find optimal solutions
  • Attend training on process and procedures and work with staff to develop skills
  • Exhibit a very strong work ethic.
  • Consistently display and promote a positive attitude.

Internal:

  • Confirm that all inputs on the estimates are accurate and complete
  • Prepare accurate estimates on time
  • Conduct field visits as necessary
  • Solicit quotes from suppliers
  • Assist in the completion of bid packages
  • Assist with orders for materials
  • Participate in weekly estimating meeting
  • Work with staff to develop required technical skills

PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • While subject to change, these metrics will be used in large part to evaluate performance:
  • Accuracy and on time completion of estimates
  • Project profitability
  • Personal professional development

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Degree or certification in building construction, engineering, architecture or a related field is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience a plus.
  • Technical expertise related to construction sufficient to ensure success in this position.
  • Previous fenestration experience a plus.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development related to our industry required.

Language Skills:

The Estimator must be able to express ideas and thoughts clearly and effectively in both written and verbal communication. Must exhibit outstanding listening and comprehension skills.

Reasoning Ability:

The Estimator must be able to collect information and develop scope of work based on available construction documents and specification.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

The Estimator should attend seminars and take classes to enhance his/ her ability and performance in the field.
