About the job Laboratory Technician

Job Purpose:

To perform wet and dry testing of products in line with quality standards and customer-specific requirements, and to support the development of new formulations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12)

  • National Diploma or N6 in Analytical Chemistry

  • Relevant certifications

  • At least 3 years experience in a testing laboratory within the automotive manufacturing industry

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Testing & Reporting

  • Collect and test samples in compliance with automotive quality standards

  • Report daily measurement results as per customer specifications

  • Compile and submit technical reports

  • Coordinate testing for other facilities and external clients

2. Wet Testing & Development

  • Conduct standard beaker mix tests to verify formulations

  • Support technical development of new products and formulations

3. Auditing & Compliance

  • Assist in product audits and layout inspections

  • Prepare and maintain layout inspection reports

  • Perform dock audits and report findings

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives

4. Laboratory & Sample Management

  • Manage master and reference samples

  • Ensure all checking aids (CFs, matrices, etc.) are properly marked, registered, and stored

  • Maintain calibration and condition of lab equipment

  • Monitor and control lab temperature and humidity

  • Organize filing and recordkeeping according to customer requirements

  • Contribute to annual Capex planning

5. Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to divisional and technical development quality management systems

  • Identify and escalate quality non-conformances

  • Participate in quality investigations and ensure timely completion of PPAP testing and documentation

6. Advanced Analysis & Research

  • Conduct capability studies, measurement system analyses, and Gauge R&R assessments

  • Research and evaluate alternative testing equipment for continuous improvement
