Job Description

Advance GBPC’s strategies, goals and objectives by:

- Supporting the development of departmental and Company goals and objectives and the execution of the same.

- Assist in developing capital project for new equipment and major repairs.

- Develop budgets, estimate labor, material, and construction costs.

- Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering capital and maintenance projects.

- Advise the Engineering Manager of Customer Operations, on engineering goals and plans and acting as required or directed to achieve existing goals and execute existing plans, and

- Demonstrates expertise in own specific engineering discipline and how that discipline relates to utility operations. Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes which apply to their specific discipline


Manage aspects of the project cycle by:

- Acting as lead or supporting member on projects, inclusive of all initiation, planning, executions, controls and closeout activities to achieve predetermined project objectives.

- Oversee project construction efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget.

- Direct and coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.

- Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment and/or the solicitations of labor.


Provide support and/or leadership on Technical Services activities by:

- Providing leadership, technical direction and supervision for various operations and maintenance work groups

- Ensure maintenance groups employed perform productively and efficiently in order to minimize cost and maximize output.

- Lead or support root cause analysis, process improvement, troubleshooting, equipment reliability and other Asset Management initiatives as required,

- Investigate customer complaints, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend remedial measures.

- Coordinate maintenance activities across the business and supports to deliver resolutions to complex technical matters, companywide.

- Routinely liaising with operations, maintenance, and other stakeholders to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency performance is optimized.

- Assist in the solutions to issues that impact safe, reliable operations and propose process changes that improve overall efficiency

- Manage engineering work assignments to ensure the design service provided is meeting department and organizational needs


Develop, maintain, and administer facilities documentation and information management systems by:

- Maintaining facilities documentation management systems to ensure drawings, project files, specifications and standards, databases, equipment files, vendor files, historical records and other related documents are archived, up to date and easily available for use by Engineering and other departments.

- Create, maintain, and utilize spreadsheet models and/or software tools to analyze transmission and distribution projects and plans.


Advance the learning culture at GBPC and support the development of other employees by:

- Providing on the job training and coaching technicians, operations, and others in equipment, processes, and systems where qualified and as required. Work in a project team environment with other engineers, supervisors and technicians involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing electrical power systems;


Academic/Skill Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET accredited program or equivalent,preferably with an emphasis on electric power systems.
  • 3 to 5 yearsof relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes related to electric distribution.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamental engineering/economic principles and concepts.
  • Proficiency to review, evaluate, and analyze technical information, policies, and reports.
  • Experience with preparing and/or reviewing utility electrical and/or I&C drawings, calculations and equipment specifications.
  • Experience with plant electrical power system analysis software
  • Ability to work and communicate well in teams.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently;
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize critical tasks and conflicting requirements. Understanding of project management processes
