Job Openings HEAD OF ENGINEERING - CLEANTECH / MARINETECH (HYBRID)

About the job HEAD OF ENGINEERING - CLEANTECH / MARINETECH (HYBRID)

We're seeking a Head of Engineering to join GT Wings, an award-winning CleanTech / MarineTech company developing wind propulsion systems that are helping commercial shipping cut fuel use, reduce emissions, and meet global sustainability goals.

GT Wings is at an exciting stage of growth. With its first full-scale AirWing installation complete and multiple commercial projects in development, the business is now scaling from prototype to production, building the future of wind-assisted propulsion. What sets GT Wings apart is its engineering-led, purpose-driven culture: innovative, fast-moving and collaborative, where technical excellence and delivery go hand in hand.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the technical direction of one of the UKs most exciting maritime start-ups. As the Head of Engineering, you'll lead the end-to-end engineering function, spanning design, system integration, testing, certification and in-service support. You'll guide a multidisciplinary team across mechanical, electrical, software and systems engineering, ensuring every AirWing product meets world-class standards for performance, reliability and safety.

Working closely with the CEO and Head of Operations, you'll own the product and technology roadmap, develop scalable processes and build the engineering capability to take GT Wings into full production. This role requires a strategic thinker who can operate at pace, combining hands-on technical depth with the ability to lead people and shape systems in a growth-stage environment.

Key requirements: You should be a capable and motivated Engineering Leader / Head of Engineering with a CV that demonstrates

  • 10+ years experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software, systems integration)
  • Proven full lifecycle delivery from concept and detailed design through to production and in-service support
  • Strong understanding of product safety, compliance and verification & validation processes
  • Experience structuring teams, processes and budgets to support scale-up engineering delivery
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and commercial functions
  • Degree-qualified in engineering (Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional recognition preferred)
  • Ideally based within commutable distance of Hampshire (hybrid working supported)

Any exposure to marine, renewable or advanced hardware sectors is desirable, as are 3D/2D design reviews, software control systems, class-society compliance, and a background in establishing engineering processes and technology roadmaps.

In return, you'll join a high-performing leadership team backed by leading investors and shipowners. Expect a competitive salary and package, hybrid flexibility, and the opportunity to lead breakthrough engineering that's shaping the next generation of clean maritime technology.
